L-Methionine

Methionine is an essential amino acid that delivers sulfur and other compounds necessary for normal metabolism. It works in concert with choline, inositol and betaine to help process lipids in the liver. This group of compounds is referred to as the lipotropics.

Methionine deficiency is rare, but low intake during pregnancy has been associated with neural tube defects. It may also cause loss of pigmentation in hair, apathy, liver damage, lethargy, muscle loss, weakness, and skin lesions.

Dietary sources of methionine include dairy products, meats, fish, fruits, vegetables and whole grains.
